Dear Tuscarawas County,
We hope this newsletter finds you well and that you had a great April. Here’s a recap of some of last month's initiatives and events that were worked on at the Tuscarawas County Economic Development Corporation (TCEDC). This month we focused heavily on workforce development and helping establish an entrepreneurial ecosystem around the region.
Lunch and Learn: Ohio Manufacturing Association Industry Sector Partnership
On April 20th, we hosted our first-ever Industry Sector Partnership meeting at the East Central Ohio Educational Service Center in New Philadelphia. This meeting featured many of our manufacturers and was designed to discuss and establish an Industry Sector Partnership through the Ohio Manufacturing Association. We were thrilled with the turnout and received great feedback from attendees. An Industry Sector Partnership (ISP) in Ohio is a collaboration between industry, educators, economic development organizations, and other stakeholders focused on workforce development.
They work to identify the skills and knowledge required for success in the industry and develop training programs that prepare workers to meet those needs. In Ohio, ISPs are supported by the Ohio Manufacturers Association. They are a partnership of organizations that work to align education, training, and workforce development efforts with the needs of businesses and industry sectors. The aim is to provide technical assistance, resources, and funding to implement effective strategies for workforce development.
Shark Tub
On April 25th, the first annual East Ohio Business Pitch Competition was a success, with over twelve businesses setting up their presentations and many people coming from Tuscarawas County to support the local companies in the competition. Over 150 attended the event. A Taste Of Ohio Wine Bourbon & Beer won the competition with a clever pitch, 2nd place went to Studio Salt Therapy, and 3rd place was La Luna Labor. This regional business pitch competition is designed to help identify and support promising startups in the area. These competitions are an excellent opportunity for entrepreneurs to showcase their ideas, gain exposure, and potentially secure funding or other forms of support for their businesses.

Battle Motors Wins Excellence Award For Large Manufacturer
Friday, April 28, John Kelly from the Tuscarawas County Economic Development Corporation presented the East Ohio Development Associations Excellence Award for Large Manufacturer to Mark Ward, Chief Engineer at Battle Motors. Since 2021, after the acquisition of the Crane Carrier Company, Battle Motors has went from just under 100 employees to now over 450 employees. Last fall, they completed a $32 million dollar building expansion that allowed them to grow from 125,000 square feet to 325,000 square feet. Accepting the Award, Mark said,
“We're building seven diesel trucks a day now, and we’re going to be eight, basically one an hour, by the end of this year… It has taken a lot of work by a lot of people and we're very thankful for all the support we’ve got. And look very much forward to introducing new products over the next few years.”
We’re always working to bring new and exciting initiatives to our community, so be sure to stay tuned for updates on future events. As always, we’re committed to working hard for the Tuscarawas County community. Thank you for your continued support.
Best regards,
The Tuscarawas County Economic Development Corporation
